What a moving tribute.
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood have honored late President Jimmy Carter at his funeral on Thursday, January 9 by performing a touching cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” which was one of President Carter’s favorite songs.
They had also performed that song at Rosalynn Carter’s funeral in 2023. Garth and Trisha were longtime friends of the Carters. They first met the former President and his wife years ago during a Habitat for Humanity building project.
In October of 2024, Garth and Trisha celebrated the former president’s 100th birthday in St. Paul, Minnesota by taking part in the 2024 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Week Project.
“He definitely wants to know that we’re working and this is why we’re here. He has a legacy of service and he never stopped serving. He’s not physically standing here building, swinging a hammer, but we feel his presence and Ms. Rosalynn’s presence strongly. We’re just two volunteers, but everybody who’s on this site feels that responsibility to make them proud.” – Trisha Yearwood
